August 13 , 2009-Confucius institute cosponsors terra cotta warriors vip party
On August 13, 2009, the Institute for Pacific Asia and Confucius Institute staff members attended the VIP Party for museum members at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Despite a menacing thunderstorm and torrential rains in the Houston area hundreds of HMNS members turned out for the VIP access to the Terra Cotta Warriors, an exhibit cosponsored by IPA in conjunction with the Confucius Institute.
As part of its outreach efforts, the Confucius Institute provided an informational booth highlighting various Chinese language and culture projects at Texas A&M. The booth also featured a Chinese calligraphy demonstration by graduate assistant Ms. Wenjuan Chen that attracted visitors all throughout the night. In addition, museum members were treated to a playful performance of the Lion Dance by Lee’s Golden Dragon sponsored by the Confucius Institute.
The Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit will be open through October 22, 2009.
