Confucius Institute at Texas A&M University senior Alexander Buddenbaum recently earned second place at the Southern United States Regional semifinals of the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for college students in Dallas on April 20, 2014, qualifying him to compete in the world finals in China.
The competition tests the students' mastery of the Chinese language and cultural literacy by having the students give a speech, answer selected questions on Chinese history, culture and customs, and then deliver a talent performance relevant to Chinese culture, all three categories entirely in Chinese.
In July, Buddenbaum will travel to Changsha, China, to compete against college students and graduates from six continents at the world final competition, which will be recorded for syndicated Chinese television.
