Aggies Win at Chinese Speech Competition
College Station, Texas, November 8, 2010 – Multiple students from Texas A&M University’s Chinese class won prizes in the 9th Greater Houston Area Chinese Speech Competition on November 7th, 2010.
The competition was held at Huaxia Chinese School by the Chinese Civic Center and Chinese Studies at University of Houston. Out of 160 participants, Texas A&M Chinese student Stone Russel won second place, Edward Toettere won third place, and Ben Cassidy, Ariel Patton, Terrance Hadnot, Jacob Olivo, and Jisung Jeon won honorable mentions.
The competition team was organized by the Confucius Institute at Texas A&M University. It was the first time that students from TAMU Chinese class participated in this type of competition. They competed within the “non-Chinese” group. The competition was a great opportunity for the students to practice Chinese, foster enthusiasm, and build confidence in Chinese learning.
