Come Celebrate the Year of the Dragon
The Confucius Institute at Texas A&M University cordially invites you to this year’s Lunar New Year Celebration and Dinner at Sbisa Dining Center at 6:00 pm on January 26th. The celebration promises to be a wonderful evening beginning with a traditional Lion Dance and Kung Fu presentation outside Sbisa. In addition to the great performances, Sbisa Dining Center will be serving a diverse Asian buffet dinner in honor of the Lunar New Year. This year, we are proud to announce that we will feature two prestigious guest chefs from Pho John’s and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

TAMU Cadets Engage Chinese Counterparts
From May 19-30, 2011, twenty-four Texas A&M University cadets traveled to China and Taiwan to participate in the 2011 Corps of Cadets International Excursion-East Asia program. Through this high-impact international learning experience, the cadets were afforded the opportunity to visit key cultural sites in the cities of Beijing, Qingdao and Taipei, and to participate in briefings and lectures from key US and Chinese military and government leaders, academics and journalists.
Texas A&M Cadets Meet OUC National Defense Students
On the afternoon of May 26th, 2011, a friendly meeting was held between 24 cadets from Texas A&M University and some National Defense students OUC campus. The cadets were led by OUC professor, Ms. Wang Qingyun, who is currently also a professor in the Confucius Institute at Texas A&M University.
Aggies in China: Rising to the Challenge
This summer, nearly 100 Texas A&M students, the largest number ever, will travel to China, part of a growing number of Aggies opting to travel to China, to learn more about the culture, language, history, and society of the world’s largest nation. The University is sponsoring numerous programs this summer to increase the number of students with experience in China, including a program in which 25 members of the Corps of Cadets will travel to China and Taiwan to gain a deeper understanding of the geopolitics and pressures facing this rising giant.
Confucius Institute Teaches Survival
The Confucius Institute at Texas A&M University provided a two-day basic Chinese language class entitled “Survival Chinese” to sixty-four students and four faculty members in preparation for their respective summer study abroad experiences in China. Led by Professor Qingyun Wang, a visiting scholar who teaches within the Chinese program at Texas A&M, the class covered the basics of communicating in Chinese from basic greetings to phrases used while shopping.
